Imphal, June 12: Assam Rifles organised a voluntary blood donation camp and a weapon exhibition at Pallel Garrison in Kakching district on Friday, combining humanitarian outreach with youth engagement initiatives aimed at strengthening ties between security forces and local communities.
Held under the aegis of Headquarters Inspector General Assam Rifles (South), the programmes took place at the Sangai Auditorium and drew participation from civilians, students, medical professionals and serving personnel.
The blood donation camp was organised in observance of World Blood Donor Day 2026 and focused on encouraging voluntary blood donation and raising awareness about its role in saving lives. The initiative received an encouraging response from the public, with around 100 civilians, including family members of Assam Rifles personnel, joining nearly 90 serving soldiers in donating blood.
Officials said the collected blood would help meet emergency medical requirements and contribute to strengthening healthcare support for patients in need.
Among those present was Dr S Hemabati Devi, Senior Medical Officer at the Blood Centre of Shija Hospital, Langol. During her visit, she interacted with participants and highlighted the importance of regular voluntary blood donation in maintaining adequate blood reserves for medical emergencies.

Dr Hemabati also visited the Community Radio Station at Pallel Garrison, where she participated in a podcast discussion on public health awareness, voluntary blood donation and the role of collective social responsibility in supporting healthcare services.
Alongside the blood donation drive, Assam Rifles conducted a weapon exhibition in collaboration with Guardian Defence Academy, Pallel. The event attracted around 80 students, who were introduced to a range of military equipment and weapons used by the armed forces.
Assam Rifles personnel briefed the students on the functioning of various weapons, operational aspects of military service and the responsibilities associated with serving in the armed forces. Organisers said the exhibition was designed to provide young people with a better understanding of military life while encouraging values such as discipline, leadership and national service.
Officials stated that the successful conduct of both programmes reflected Assam Rifles’ continued focus on community welfare, youth empowerment and constructive engagement with the local population. They added that similar outreach initiatives would continue to be organised to foster stronger bonds between the force and the people of the region.
