No German Road or Tiger Road in Naga Areas, Says Naga Association

Last Updated on July 1, 2025 by SPN Editor

The Eastern Liangmai Naga Chief/Chairman Association (ELNCCA) has issued a formal statement expressing strong opposition to the proposed construction of a road, referred to as the “German Road” or “Tiger Road,” intended to connect Kangpokpi to Churachandpur through ancestral Naga territories. The association has categorically rejected the legitimacy of this project, asserting that no such road has ever existed or is recognized in the historical, traditional, or recorded land records of the Naga people.

In a press communique released today, the ELNCCA described the proposed infrastructure project as a fabricated initiative that constitutes an act of aggression and a deliberate provocation. The association warned that any attempt to encroach upon Naga ancestral lands under the pretext of development will be met with resolute resistance. It further cautioned that such actions could ignite widespread unrest and potentially lead to communal conflicts, with full responsibility resting on those who disregard this warning.

The ELNCCA has urged the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) to exercise wisdom and urgency in addressing the matter. It condemned any support or approval of the so-called “wish list” of the Kuki community as a reckless endorsement of territorial encroachment, which could severely jeopardize fragile inter-community relations. The association called upon the Government of India to ensure that no infrastructure projects, regardless of nomenclature or justification, violate the territorial sanctity of Naga lands.

Additionally, the ELNCCA demanded the immediate dismantling of all Suspension of Operation (SoO) camps operated by Kuki militant groups located near Naga-inhabited areas. It highlighted that these camps pose a significant threat to peace and serve as a persistent source of intimidation and insecurity for the local population. The association emphasized that the continued presence of these camps will not be tolerated.

The Eastern Liangmai people, described as a peace-loving community, affirmed their commitment to defending their land against deceit, provocation, or occupation. The ELNCCA asserted its role as the rightful guardian of the region, vowing to protect its territory by all necessary means.
