PowerGrid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) has donated a minibus to Manipur University to strengthen campus transportation and support students and staff. The vehicle was formally handed over in a ceremony held at the Committee Room of the Vice-Chancellor’s Secretariat. The initiative is part of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts aimed at improving educational infrastructure and accessibility.
Waribam Amarjeet, Senior Deputy General Manager (i/c) of POWERGRID, said the minibus will help ease commuting difficulties for students, especially those coming from distant areas, and enhance overall mobility on campus. He reiterated the company’s focus on education, healthcare, skill development, and rural infrastructure as key pillars of its CSR activities.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. N. Lokendra Singh expressed gratitude for the contribution, stating that the new vehicle will significantly benefit the university community and improve day-to-day operations. He also expressed interest in expanding collaboration with POWERGRID, particularly in student training and internship programmes.
The event was attended by Prof. N. Lokendra Singh, Vice-Chancellor; Waribam Amarjeet; Prof. M. Premjit Singh, Registrar; Prof. Ch. Ibohal Meitei, Director of the Research & Development Cell; along with deans and senior officials from both the university and POWERGRID.
This handover highlights the growing partnership between public sector undertakings and academic institutions in India’s Northeast, working together to improve facilities and create better opportunities for students.
