Prime Minister Narendra Modi Assesses Situation in Manipur

New Delhi/June 27, 2023 (SPN) | In a bid to evaluate the current situation in Manipur, Prime Minister Narendra Modi convened a stocktaking meeting, actively involving senior ministers on Monday.

This move aims to address and analyze the existing conditions in the state, ensuring effective governance and the implementation of strategic measures. The meeting, organized under the Prime Minister’s supervision, seeks to comprehend the challenges faced by Manipur and devise suitable plans for its progress.

The meeting, attended by senior Cabinet members and top bureaucrats, aimed to address the ongoing unrest and restore peace in the region. Notable attendees included Union ministers Amit Shah, Nirmala Sitharaman, and Hardeep Puri.

Following his recent trips to the United States and Egypt, Prime Minister Modi returned and promptly assumed personal oversight of the situation in Manipur.

Home Minister Amit Shah met with Modi earlier in the day to provide an update on the ground realities and the discussions held with Manipur Chief Minister N Biren on Sunday.

During the meeting, Amit Shah, along with senior officials including the Principal Secretary of the Prime Minister’s Office, P K Mishra, delivered a comprehensive briefing on the measures undertaken to restore peace in Manipur.

The discussion covered not only the crucial role of security forces in establishing area dominance but also their involvement in providing humanitarian assistance to affected areas.

Earlier, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren expressed his concerns about the changing nature of violence in the region. He highlighted the shift from sporadic exchange of fire in peripheral areas to civil unrest in the valley districts.

Amit Shah shared these concerns, emphasizing the need to address this evolving pattern of violence.

The prime minister’s assessment meeting was a critical step in understanding the ground realities in Manipur and formulating effective strategies to restore peace and stability to the region.
