Rajya Sabha MP Maharaja Leishemba Sanajaoba has strongly condemned the hounding of Khul Ngakpa, the village volunteers who took up arms to protect innocent people. He has called for an immediate and holistic resolution to the ongoing crisis, emphasizing the urgent need for unity and a consensus-driven approach to safeguard the lives and properties of the people.
He expressed his views on the Khul Ngakpa, who took up arms to protect innocent people during the violence on May 3, 2023, when both central and state forces were inactive and failed to safeguard lives and properties.
During a press interaction at the International Mother Language Day celebration at GP College, Sanajaoba highlighted the severe hardships people have endured for nearly two years due to the crisis. He expressed concern over the excessive political maneuvering and stressed the need for immediate action to safeguard the people. He cautioned that those accountable for the crisis could face a massive public uprising.
Sanajaoba referenced recent reports of village volunteers, known as Khul Ngakpa, being arrested and called for a closer examination of the circumstances leading to their arrests. He condemned the manner in which Khul Ngakpa are being hounded and arrested, stating that they are the future and must be protected.
The MP urged those involved in shaping the current situation to come forward and collaborate for a resolution. Without naming any specific individuals, political figures, or civil society organizations, he warned that the consequences could be even more severe than the June 18 uprising. Sanajaoba reiterated his plea for all parties to unite in the interest of the people, emphasizing the necessity of a collective effort to bring stability and peace to the state.
Sanajaoba also informed the media that he had brought this delicate issue to the attention of the Governor of Manipur. He emphasized the need for amicable solutions regarding the Khul Ngakpa and their protection. Sanajaoba advocated for a comprehensive approach to address the root causes that led these village defenders to take up arms, urging for their integration into mainstream society.
He expressed hope that the Governor would consider these suggestions seriously to ensure the safety and well-being of the Khul Ngakpa, who he believes are neither anti-national nor anti-Indian.
MP Sanajaoba also called for a careful examination of the root causes that led to their arming themselves and urged for a holistic discussion to help them return to their normal lives, warning that the community could be lost if they go their separate ways.
Committed to staying away from state politics, Rajya Sabha MP Maharaja Leishemba Sanajaoba emphasized the importance of state legislators working diligently and sincerely to establish a popular government as soon as possible.
