State Power Minister Th Biswajit informed the House on Friday that the present government is providing 24X7 power supply in Imphal West and East, but power tripping occurred sometimes as most of the present systems are outdated.
Biswajit was responding to a starred question raised by MLA Th Joykisan during the sitting of the ongoing second session of the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly on Friday.
Supplementing the starred question, MLA Joykisan said people in the Imphal City are facing frequent interrupted power supply even in Thangmeiband, Uripok and other areas of the city.
Seeking information from the minister concerned, Joykisan asked what measures have been taken by the government to provide uninterrupted power supply to the people.
Responding to the starred question, power minister informed the House that most of the systems that are used for providing power supply are outdated.
However, to provide uninterrupted power supply, the state government has made a proposal for Rs 1,870 crore project under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS) and at present the Central government has sanctioned Rs 395 crore to be utilised on upgradation of the outdated systems, he added.
After the installation and upgradation to a new power system the government will try to provide uninterrupted power supply to the public, said the power minister.
Power supply in the State has improved drastically during the first five year tenures of BJP led government in Manipur. Th Biswajit was the Power Minister in that tenure as well. He was instrumental in providing electricity to almost every villages of the State.
The present peak demand of Manipur is about 150 MW, the transformation capacity available at 132kV level is 517 MVA (100: Inter-state + 417: Intra-state) and there are 7 nos. of 132kV inter-state CTU lines (6 nos of 132kV lines and 1 no. of 400kV line charged at 132kV level) to feed power to Manipur.
