The indigenous games of Manipur, Thang Ta save the face of Manipur in the Khelo India Youth Games 2022. The Thang-Ta team won 5 gold and lifted the medal tally of Manipur to 7th position from the 14th with 12 Gold, 9 silver, and 12 bronze, totaling 33 medals.
The Manipur team is behind Kerala and Delhi on the 12th day of the Khelo India Youth Games 2021. The last day of the Games will have Swimming and Wrestling events.
Khelo India Youth Games 2022 which is held in Madhya Pradesh, Manipur team is not performing well till the 11th day of the Games. In the medal tally, Manipur was far behind the medal tally. Not even in the top 10 positions.
Earlier, the powerhouse of Indian sports is struggling to get gold on the 11th day with 5 Golds, 8 silvers, and 8 bronze, totaling just 21 to rank 14th in the medal tally. The fencing team is able to garner Gold medals.
As the Game is about to end on 11th February, sports lovers from Manipur were disheartened that the State will not be in the top 10 medal tally. It will be a disastrous moment for sports in Manipur if any sporting event is held and the national media not appreciates the wonders of Manipur.
Fortunately, on the 12th day on Friday, Manipur breaks all records. The indigenous games of Manipur, Thang-Ta clinched 5 Gold Medals in the Games.
Manipur bags 5 Gold, one silver, and one bronze in the Thang-Ta alone. The girl Football team also defeated West Bengal in the Final match to add one more Gold.
In the Weightlifting match, Maibam Martina rewrote the Junior National Records in the Snatch, Clean, and Jerk, and total category seven times in 81 plus Kg Girls Weightlifting at the Khelo India Youth Games 2022. Martina has also created 8 National records at the Khelo India Youth Games in 2021.
