Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya M Scindia has announced that Bir Tikendrajit International Airport in Imphal, Manipur will be upgraded to the level of a full-fledged international airport by 2025.

This announcement was made in response to a question raised by Rajya Sabha MP Maharaja Leishemba Sanajaoba in the Rajya Sabha.

According to Jyotiraditya Scindia, the Airports Authority of India has set a target to install all the infrastructure and facilities required at an international airport at Bir Tikendrajit International Airport by 2025. This move will greatly enhance air connectivity in the Northeastern region of India and promote tourism.

MP Leishemba Sanajaoba also inquired about the possibility of introducing regular flight services between Delhi and Imphal at night.

Jyotiraditya Scindia stated that after the Air Corporation Act was repealed in March 1994, domestic aviation was deregulated in the country. As a result, air services and schedules on different routes are subject to the wish or preference of airline companies.

However, the Civil Aviation Ministry has been regularly interacting with airline companies to promote air connectivity.

The announcement to upgrade Bir Tikendrajit International Airport to a full-fledged international airport is a welcome move that will greatly enhance air connectivity in Northeastern India.

The region is known for its scenic beauty and rich cultural heritage, and the upgraded airport will make it more accessible to tourists from all over the world.
