FIFA World cup final match turned into an ugly disaster when a stay bullet from the celebratory gunfire of Argentina supporters killed a woman in Manipur.
In a tragic incident, Salam Ningol Laishram Ongbi Ibetombi (50), wife of Laishram Biramani of Singjamei Wangma Bheigyabati Leikai in Kongba Road died at her own house after getting shot by a stray bullet during a round of celebratory gunfire.
As per the Signpost reporter, the event occurred at around 11 PM yesterday. The victim was sitting in her bedroom watching the FIFA World Cup final match between Argentina and France. A few minutes after Argentina lift the FIFA Cup, celebratory gunfire and firecrackers sound was heard in Imphal city.
Ibetombi’s family too heard crackers outside celebrating Argentina’s victory. Her husband, Biramani said that they heard somebody pelting stones at their roofing sheet wall. At this, their son shouted, “Who’s it?.” But the next moment, she collapsed.”
The deceased was watching the final match on the first floor of the house. She was holding a child and sitting on her bed when the incident happened.
When the Argentina team lift the cup, people rejoiced and the sounds of firecrackers and gunshots were heard. Ibetombi fell down from her bed after being hit by a stray bullet that passed through the wall of her room.
Immediately, the family members rushed to the nearby Advanced Hospital where the doctors declared her brought dead. A bullet mark was found on her back.
Porompat police rushed to the spot and a search operation was conducted in the locality. It was found that two bullets have passed through the deceased wall.
The local club, Meira paibi and the family members are demanding to nab the culprits and punished them. A Joint Action Committee (JAC) against the Killing of Laishram Ongbi Ibetombi was formed and said that they will not collect the body until and unless the alleged murderer is arrested and punished accordingly.
Condolence were pouring in from different parts of the State for the tragic Celebratory gunfire victim in the State which is the first time in Manipur.
