Priyakanta Laishram is returning to filmmaking with Interlude, a live-action short that adopts a deliberately stripped-down cinematic approach. The film’s first official poster was released on 27 September 2026.
Unlike a conventional contemporary short, Interlude has been conceived entirely in monochrome, with the film photographed in black and white and framed in the 4:3 format.
The visual choices are accompanied by an equally pared-back sound approach, with the film carrying no background music. Natural sounds, surrounding ambience and moments of silence instead form the film’s sonic environment.
The project is being presented as a new experiment in realism for Laishram, who has worked across several departments of filmmaking, including direction, acting, writing, editing and production. The filmmaker has kept the details of the story limited, with the newly released poster serving primarily as an introduction to the film’s visual world.
Interlude is produced by Roushil Singla under Priyakanta Productions. The cast includes Narmada Shougaijam, Baggee Tonjam, Parihanba Thingnam, Ramesh Atom, Ramva Leishangthem, Shorojinii Rajkumari and Sushma Kshetrimayum.
Although the film is situated against the backdrop of the current circumstances in Manipur, its treatment remains focused on the personal and the observational. The filmmakers have chosen not to reveal much of the narrative at this stage.
With its decision to dispense with colour, conventional widescreen framing and a musical score, Interlude represents a different formal direction for Laishram. The first poster provides an initial glimpse of that approach without revealing the film in full.
