Last Updated on February 11, 2025 by SPN Editor

On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a speech at the AI Summit in Paris, emphasizing how AI has the potential to revolutionize numerous sectors, including health, agriculture, and education. He highlighted the role Artificial Intelligence could play in making the journey towards achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) both “easier and faster.” The Prime Minister urged the global community to collaborate in pooling resources and talent for the advancement of AI.

During his address at the AI Action Summit, PM Modi stated, “AI possesses the power to transform millions of lives by enhancing health, education, agriculture, and much more. It can pave the way for a world where the pursuit of sustainable development goals becomes more achievable and swift. To realize this potential, we must come together to harness resources and talent. Open-source systems that foster trust and transparency are essential.”

He further added, “We need to create high-quality, unbiased data sets. It is crucial to democratize technology and develop people-centric applications. Addressing issues related to cybersecurity, disinformation, and deepfakes is paramount. Additionally, technology must be integrated into local ecosystems to ensure its effectiveness and utility. The fear that AI will cause job loss is understandable, but history shows that technology changes the nature of work rather than eliminating it. Therefore, we must focus on skilling and reskilling our population for an AI-driven future.”

Expressing his gratitude, PM Modi said, “I am thankful to my friend, President Macron, for hosting this AI summit and for inviting me to co-chair it. AI is already transforming our politics, economy, security, and society. It is coding the future of humanity in this century. However, AI is evolving at an unprecedented pace, being adopted and deployed faster than any technology before. The interdependence between nations is profound.”

PM Modi stressed the importance of collective global efforts in innovation and governance. He remarked, “We must engage in deep reflection and open discussions about innovation and governance. Governance must ensure access to all, especially in the Global South. In these regions, there is a significant lack of capabilities, whether in computational power, talent, or financial resources.”

Highlighting the need for global collaboration in AI, he said, “There is a pressing need for collective global efforts to establish governance and standards that uphold our shared values, address risks, and build trust. Governance is not solely about managing conflicts but also about fostering innovation for the greater good. Therefore, we must think critically and engage in open dialogue about innovation and governance, ensuring accessibility for all, particularly in the Global South.”

Finally, PM Modi reiterated his appreciation to French President Emmanuel Macron for hosting and co-chairing the AI summit, noting that AI is developing at an “unprecedented scale and speed,” with rapid adaptation and deployment.

The AI Summit currently taking place in Paris is attracting global leaders, policymakers, and tech executives to discuss the future of artificial intelligence and its profound impacts. Co-chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron, the AI summit is a vital forum for addressing AI’s transformative potential and the necessity of global collaboration to harness this technology.

Google CEO Sundar Pichai also took the stage at the AI Summit, discussing AI’s ability to democratize information access and improve life quality. Pichai touched on rapid advancements in AI, including groundbreaking discoveries in protein structure prediction and the development of tools like Gemini 2.0. He stressed the importance of investing in AI education, infrastructure, and regulation while ensuring that technology remains ethical and widely accessible.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman participated in the discussions, acknowledging India’s pivotal role in the AI revolution. He noted the country’s burgeoning AI talent, growing investments, and vibrant innovation ecosystem.

Global tech leaders from companies such as Microsoft, Nvidia, and IBM have recognized India’s potential to lead the AI frontier. During the AI Summit, they highlighted India’s expanding AI talent pool, robust digital infrastructure, and increasing AI investment.
