The Jeep Wagoneer family is introducing a unique member that distinctly differs from its forerunners. This newcomer, dubbed the Wagoneer S, is a luxury midsize SUV that is not just more compact but also fully electric.
Design and Power
The Wagoneer S is engineered to compete with the Land Rover Range Rover Sport. It’s roughly the same size as the existing two-row Grand Cherokee, but it features a streamlined design and a reimagined roof that descends below the rear wing. The grille, lit by LEDs, has been restructured to slice through the wind, turning the brand’s DNA into a masterpiece.
However, the ‘S’ in Wagoneer S doesn’t just symbolize style; it represents speed. Powered by 600 horsepower, this SUV is expected to sprint from 0-60 mph in just 3.5 seconds. It also promises a range of approximately 400 miles. “That’s Trackhawk territory for speed,” notes Jim Morrison, the head of Jeep Brand North America.
Off-Road Capability
The Wagoneer S will employ the STLA Large platform and is likely to have dual motors (one at the front, one at the rear) for all-wheel-drive capability and stability. It will also offer superior 4WD capability as standard equipment, complete with all-terrain management. However, unlike most other Jeeps, it will not be rated for the Rubicon trail.
Interior Design
The interior of the Wagoneer is akin to that of the Jeep Grand Cherokee. The flat battery and floor of the EV have enabled designers to maximize the interior space.
Electrification Strategy
The Wagoneer is part of Jeep’s wider plan for fully electric 4xe vehicles. It is slated to be one of four all-electric SUVs for North America and four for Europe by the end of 2025. The Wagoneer S is scheduled to hit the roads in the fall of 2024. With its robust 600-HP electric powertrain and impressive design, the Wagoneer S is set to extend the luxury of the Wagoneer style to the rest of the world. It’s clear that the future of luxury SUVs is electric, and the Wagoneer S is spearheading this transformation.
The major domestic Stellantis brands (Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, and Ram) are swiftly moving towards electrification. Following the recent launch of the Dodge Charger EV and the electric Ram 1500 REV, the Jeep Wagoneer S is now stepping onto the stage.
While Jeep has reassured brand enthusiasts that the electric Wagoneer will maintain the iconic seven-slot grille, further details about its first fully electric vehicle are currently limited. However, based on what we know about other upcoming Stellantis EVs, we can make some informed assumptions. Both the upcoming Charger and Ram 1500 REV are reported to use either a 400- or 800-volt electrical architecture, enabling DC fast charging.
The Ram’s range is claimed to reach up to 500 miles, and it’s plausible to expect similar performance from the Wagoneer S. The Wagoneer is likely to use Stellantis’ STLA battery-electric platform, which is also used by the 1500 REV.
A brief teaser video released by Jeep indicates that the Wagoneer S will feature a much faster backlight than the gas-powered Wagoneer, suggesting that the styling of the electric Wagoneer S may significantly differ from that of its sibling.
Jeep has announced that the vehicle will go on sale in the fall of 2024, marking a significant milestone in the brand’s journey towards electrification.
