Manipur University formally inaugurated a week-long Faculty Development Programme on “Integration of Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS) into the Curriculum” today, aiming to empower teachers with the knowledge and skills to incorporate India’s ancient wisdom into modern higher education.
The capacity-building programme, running from February 9 to 14, 2026, seeks to equip educators from across Manipur with conceptual and pedagogical tools to seamlessly blend Indian Knowledge traditions with contemporary teaching and curriculum design.
Prof. N. Lokendra Singh, Vice-Chancellor of Manipur University, who graced the inaugural session of this Faculty Development Programme as Chief Guest, emphasised the importance of Indian Knowledge Systems in creating holistic education. He called upon higher education institutions to preserve and promote indigenous intellectual traditions alongside modern disciplines.
The session was presided over by Prof. R. K. Bhubon Singh, Director, Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Centre (MMTTC), Manipur University. He highlighted the programme’s alignment with the National Education Policy (NEP) and its potential to foster critical thinking, cultural rootedness, and interdisciplinary learning among students.
Professor Aakash Shaw, Course Coordinator, outlined the objectives and structure of the programme, while distinguished resource persons, including Dr. Chakradhar Meher from Central Sanskrit University, delivered insights on the contemporary relevance of IKS in education, ethics, science, and society.
Prof. Ch. Ibohal Meitei, Programme Coordinator, MMTTC, played a key role in organising the event.
The Faculty Development Programme is expected to promote pedagogical innovation and strengthen the integration of Indian Knowledge Systems into mainstream academics.
