The National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) has opened the application process for the sixth phase of its flagship Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP) for the academic session 2027-28. This move represents another important step towards fulfilling the vision of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
Eligible multidisciplinary institutions across the country are invited to apply online for recognition to offer the four-year ITEP. The programme combines rigorous academic education with professional teacher training, aiming to develop competent, reflective, and skilled educators ready to meet the needs of modern school education in India.
The online application window opened on May 8, 2026, and will close on May 31, 2026 (till 11:59 PM). Institutions must submit their applications exclusively through the official NCTE portal at par.ncte.gov.in/ITEP. Only those meeting the council’s prescribed norms and shortlisting criteria will be considered, while incomplete or non-compliant applications will be rejected.
A processing fee, as per NCTE Rules 1997 and its amendments, is applicable. Institutions are advised to apply well in advance, ensure all required documents are uploaded accurately, and avoid last-minute technical issues.
Through the phased expansion of ITEP, NCTE is shifting away from traditional standalone teacher education models towards a more holistic, multidisciplinary approach that strengthens both subject expertise and pedagogical skills. This initiative is expected to significantly enhance the quality of teacher preparation across the nation in line with the goal of Viksit Bharat.
Detailed guidelines, eligibility conditions, list of required documents, and the official public notice are available on the NCTE website (ncte.gov.in) and the dedicated ITEP portal.
