Imphal/November 23, 2023 (SPN)| The Relief Committee JNIMS has earnestly requested everyone to contribute financially to support 11-year-old Laishram Deviya’s kidney transplant. Currently, Laishram Deviya is receiving dialysis treatment at JNIMS Hospital due to both her kidneys failure.
The plea for assistance was made during a press conference at the Medical Superintendent Conference Hall, JNIMS Hospital, Porompat yesterday. Thoidingjam Bon, the chairman of the Relief Committee JNIMS, informed the media that Deviya and her family had to leave their home in Leimaram and take shelter at the Leimaram Relief Camp following a violent incident in the State on May 3.
Upon discovering that a young girl at the Leimaram Relief Camp was battling renal failure, the Relief Committee JNIMS arranged for Deviya’s treatment under Dr Rajesh Waikhom of JNIMS Hospital from May 24. Tragically, while Deviya was fighting for her life at the camp, she lost her father, Laishram Ningthem, to an illness on August 27. Now, her mother, Laishram (Ongbi) Sanathoi, and her younger brother are her only remaining family.
Thoidingjam Bon highlighted the family’s financial struggles, noting that the funds provided under the Chief Ministergi Hakshelgi Tengbang (CMHT) scheme are rapidly depleting. He added that additional funds from the scheme would not be available until the health card is renewed in April 2024.
Despite these financial challenges, JNIMS Director Laishram Deben has committed to covering the costs of the kidney matching tests, which will be conducted out-of-state once a kidney donor is identified for Deviya. These tests are estimated to cost around Rs 40,000 to Rs 50,000. Thoidingjam Bon expressed his gratitude to the JNIMS Director on behalf of the Relief Committee JNIMS.
Thoidingjam Bon also shared that 59 individuals and three groups have donated a total of Rs 68,587 to help Deviya. The contributing groups include the DM College of Science 1996-99 Batch (Rs 20,000), Comet School Class XII Batch 2022-23 (Rs 10,000), and Special Regular English Higher Secondary School Nambol Sabal Leikai (Rs 15,000).
The Relief Committee JNIMS chairman urged the public to donate to Laishram Deviya and shared the GPay account details for donations – GPay phone no 9856152727, user name Thoidingjam Sunil Khuman. “Deviya dreams of overcoming her illness and returning to school with her friends. Please help give this young girl a new lease on life,” Thoidingjam Bon implored.
In an effort to support Deviya’s kidney transplant surgery, Manipur Wakhal Manaba Tengbang Lup donated Rs 40,800 to her mother this evening. Deviya’s mother was also present at the press conference.
