Vishwa Samvad Kendra Manipur organised a one-day workshop on News Writing and Photography at Bashkara Prabha in Kongjeng Leikai, Kwakeithel, Imphal West, on Sunday.
With the growing influence of mobile journalism (MoJo) and citizen journalism in the digital era, the workshop aimed at enhancing the reporting skills of participants using mobile devices.
The workshop was inaugurated by Kh. Rajen Singh, Assam Kshetra Karyavah (North East), along with Naorem Mohen, Editor of Signpost News. They lit diyas and offered prayers to Bharat Mata and the founder Gurus of the RSS.
At the inaugural speech, Kh. Rajen Singh emphasise on the importance of learning News Writing by Swam Sevaks for promotion of the information and news down by the organization.
Naorem Mohen, conducted the first two sessions, which ran from 9:30 am to 1:30 pm. More than 30 Swayam Sevaks and Pracharaks from the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) participated in the programme, which focused on the fundamentals of news writing and photography.
He also encouraged participants to take up responsible reporting, stating, “Everyone can be a reporter today, but the mobile phone we carry should be used responsibly and purposefully for genuine journalism”.
He highlighted that while smartphones empower citizens to share real-time information, maintaining media ethics, accuracy, and credibility is essential for effective journalism.
The first session covered core principles of news writing, including the inverted pyramid structure, the 5W1H formula, media ethics, and second session focus on various aspects of photography, illustrated with practical examples.
In the third and final session, L. Jatra Singh, Prant Karyakarini Sadasya of RSS Manipur, spoke on the Pancha Parivartan (five transformations) of the RSS and assigned practical tasks to the participants. Sh. Tarunkumar Sharma, Karyavah of RSS Manipur Prant, also graced the this session.
RK Dayananda from the Prachar Vibhag of RSS Manipur Prant assisted the participants throughout the workshop. He emphasised that such training programmes would empower Swayam Sevaks to effectively communicate the ideologies and humanitarian services of the RSS to the public, urging every Swayam Sevak to contribute to the Prachar Vibhag.
The workshop ended with a practical test where Naorem Mohen conducted an assessment of the participants’ news writing and photography skills, to be submitted to local media houses.
