A press conference was held yesterday by Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) in connection with false allegations made by Dr RK Ranjan, MOS External Affairs and Education at Sambei village, Khundrakpam on April 16, 2023. In the press conference, Congress criticizes Dr RK Ranjan for his silence on the India-Myanmar boundary issue.

Speaking at a press conference, MPCC Vice President Hareshwar Goswami expressed disappointment that Dr Ranjan, who was previously vocal on the matter, has failed to address the dispute since assuming his current role.

Goswami highlighted Dr Ranjan’s track record as an intellectual and former editor of a journal. In 1982, Dr. RK Ranjan, who was the editor of a journal, wrote about the loss of significant land in Manipur between Border Pillar No. 64 and 68. He also raised concerns about why Myanmar was demanding to exchange its Joro Khunou village with Manipur’s Molcham.

However, since taking office, Dr Ranjan has not taken any action on the boundary issue, Goswami said.

The blame for the dispute has been unfairly placed on Congress, with boundary fencing work being stopped under the previous UPA government, according to Goswami. Since the arrival of the BJP government, the issue has grown larger, he added.

MPCC Vice President Tilotama Devi also criticized the BJP for their propaganda politics, accusing the party of changing the names of schemes and causing confusion among the people.

She defended Congress and Rahul Gandhi’s commitment to the Northeast and criticized the BJP for failing to answer questions raised by the Congress leader.

MPCC General Secretary (Org) Md Amir Husain, City Congress Committee President G Dayananda Sharma and other party leaders were also present at the press conference.
