Delete fake villages and bogus populations – NYFM

Last Updated on March 15, 2023 by SPN Editor

The presence of fake villages and bogus populations is a significant problem in Manipur, as it contributes to illegal activities such as drug trafficking and poppy plantation. The Naga Youth Forum, Manipur (NYFM) has urged for a massive social movement to address the current socio-political challenges posed by vested interests in the State.

These fake villages are often created for personal gains, leading to the exploitation of resources and land.

According to Amu Pamei, the President of NYFM, the recent agitation in support of illegal encroachment in the reserved and protected forests has highlighted this issue.

In a press release, NYFM highlighted various issues such as the loss of forest cover, drug trafficking, poppy cultivation, and illegal settlement in reserve and protected forests.

The statement also expressed concern over the discovery of many villages with fake populations, Aadhaar cards, and voter identity cards.

As such, NYFM has made several demands to the Government of Manipur and the Government of India. These include identifying and removing fictitious villages and bogus populations, eradicating fake Aadhaar and voter identity cards, derecognizing chieftainships heading multiple villages, and enacting appropriate laws to recognize new villages.

NYFM’s statement also mentioned that attempts to control land and resources have been transformed into a political movement that seeks separate political status, resulting in socio-political problems in Manipur.

In response, NYFM has called on all rational citizens of the State to support this mass social movement for peace and harmony in Manipur. It is imperative to take action to address the current socio-political challenges, which threaten to destabilize the State’s peace and harmony.
