Imphal, September 15: Dr Lamabam Pinky Devi, Medical Officer at the Manipur University Health Centre, participated as a founding member of the newly established North East Regional Chapter of the Indian Association of Palliative Care (IAPC), which was formally inaugurated in Meghalaya on September 12.
The inauguration was held at P.A. Sangma Medical College and Hospital and was preceded by a day-long academic programme and leadership meeting attended by healthcare professionals and representatives from across the Northeast.
The regional chapter brings together healthcare professionals, academic institutions, community organisations and other stakeholders from Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura.
The initiative seeks to improve coordination and access to palliative and home-based care across the region. Its major focus areas include mapping existing services and the available workforce, strengthening professional competencies, building partnerships with institutions and government agencies, increasing public awareness and community participation, and exploring sustainable financing for care services.
Dr Pinky Devi’s participation in the regional platform is expected to benefit the Manipur University community by strengthening knowledge, professional connections and institutional capacity in healthcare support.
The experience gained through the chapter could also help the University develop a more emotionally supportive campus environment for students, research scholars, faculty members and staff. Such support can assist members of the University community in coping with emotional stress while promoting compassionate communication, dignity and a better quality of life.
