Manipur University on Wednesday held a special programme to discuss the implementation of the Women’s Reservation Bill, 2023 (Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam), focusing on women’s empowerment and greater representation in politics, academia, bureaucracy and nation-building.

Vice-Chancellor (in-charge) Prof. Sumitra Phanjoubam administered an oath on the preamble, gender equality and women’s empowerment to the participants at the event, held at the Court Hall of the Vice-Chancellor’s Secretariat.

Prof. Y. Premananda Singh, Head, Department of Law, highlighted the important role of women and universities in promoting inclusive growth and achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047. He emphasised the need for reservation of seats for women in the Lok Sabha and State Legislative Assemblies to ensure their meaningful participation in decision-making.

The programme on implementation of Women’s Reservation Bill was attended by senior university officials, including Prof. Premalata Maisnam, Dean, School of Education; Prof. Toijam Tampha Devi, Dean, School of Humanities; and Shri T. Shantikumar Singh, Registrar (in-charge).

Faculty members and staff Manipur University participated enthusiastically, reaffirming the university’s commitment to fostering inclusivity and equitable representation in academic and national decision-making processes.
