Imphal, September 8, 2026: The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), Manipur Prant, has condemned the death of Manipuri musician Chongtham Vikram following an assault in New Delhi and called for a swift and impartial investigation into the case.
In a statement issued by RSS Manipur Prant Karyawah S. Tarunkumar Sharma, the organisation expressed grief over the death and urged the authorities to ensure that those responsible are brought to justice in accordance with law.
According to the statement, Vikram had gone downstairs from his residence in Kilokri, New Delhi, after a group of six men were allegedly drinking and creating a disturbance outside his apartment.
The RSS statement said Vikram was allegedly assaulted after he requested the group to lower the noise. He sustained serious injuries in the attack and later succumbed to them, it added.
Describing the incident as a “senseless act of violence”, RSS Manipur Prant said no person should have to face such brutality merely for asking others to maintain peace in a residential neighbourhood.
The organisation called upon the authorities concerned to conduct a “swift, impartial and thorough investigation” and take legal action against all those found responsible for the assault.
RSS Manipur Prant also described Vikram’s death as a painful loss for Manipur, particularly its artistic community.
It extended condolences to his family, friends, fellow artists and the wider Manipuri community, while praying for strength for the bereaved family.
