Imphal, August 07, 2026: In a major healthcare outreach initiative, more than 300 students, faculty members, officers, staff, research scholars and local residents benefited from a Free Multi-Speciality Health Camp organised at the Manipur University Health Centre on Friday.
The health camp was jointly organised by the Manipur University Health Centre (MUHC), Manipur University Students’ Union (MUSU) and Shija Hospitals & Research Institute, Langol, with the objective of promoting preventive healthcare and improving the overall well-being of the university community.
A 25-member medical team from Shija Hospitals, including eight specialist doctors representing Medicine, ENT, Gynaecology, Psychiatry, Dermatology, Ophthalmology (Eye Care) and other allied healthcare professionals, participated in the camp. The team also included nursing officers, optometrists, counsellors, interns and support staff, enabling beneficiaries to receive comprehensive health consultations under one roof.
The programme was supported by a dedicated 12-member team from the Manipur University Health Centre, comprising the Medical Officer, Dental Surgeon, Physiotherapist, Pharmacist, Staff Nurses, Medical Attendant, Ambulance Driver and other healthcare personnel, ensuring the smooth conduct of the camp.
Vice Chancellor (In-Charge) of Manipur University, Prof. R.K. Hemakumar Singh, visited the health camp and interacted with the doctors, healthcare professionals and beneficiaries. Appreciating the collaborative initiative, he commended the Manipur University Health Centre, Manipur University Students’ Union (MUSU) and Shija Hospitals & Research Institute for organising the camp. He said such initiatives play a significant role in promoting preventive healthcare and creating a healthy campus environment, adding that the health and well-being of students, faculty and staff are essential for the university’s academic growth and overall development.
Speaking on the occasion, Medical Officer of Manipur University Health Centre, Dr. Lamabam Pinky Devi, said the initiative reflects the university’s commitment to ensuring the overall health and well-being of everyone on campus.
“A healthy campus is essential for the smooth functioning, academic excellence and overall development of the university. Through such health camps, we aim to provide quality healthcare services, promote preventive health awareness and create a healthier academic environment,” she said.
A representative of the Manipur University Students’ Union (MUSU) thanked the university authorities and Shija Hospitals for extending specialist healthcare services to the campus, stating that the initiative has greatly benefited the student community.
Faculty members, officers, staff and research scholars also expressed appreciation to the Manipur University Health Centre for organising the programme. They noted that access to experienced specialists within the campus saved both time and cost while encouraging regular health check-ups. Many participants also hoped that similar health camps would be organised on a regular basis.
The successful collaboration between Manipur University and Shija Hospitals highlighted the importance of institutional partnerships in strengthening healthcare access and promoting a healthier, more productive university community.
