The Tangkhul shows the most humble hospitality during the Shirui Lily Festival.
Two things to be appreciated in the Shirui Lily Festival 2022 are, the free car wash for every tourist visiting Ukhrul for the Festival and the cleanliness drive by youth volunteers. The message must be carried to other parts of the state. Let us learn something from Tangkhul youths.
The fourth edition of the state-level Shirui Lily Festival, which was celebrated in the Ukhrul district in honour of the state’s flower ‘Shirui Lily’ or Kashong Timrawon, concluded on Saturday. The four-day-long festival started on Wednesday (from May 25 to 29).
The mega festival which includes climbing Shirui peak, the Miss Shirui Lily contest, bike rally, Shirock is normal affair that can be seen in every edition of this State level festival. Of course, in this edition, we could see the marvelous dance of MAHUD Minister Yumnam Khemchand along with his wife. Crowds were cheering the romantic pair, which is the first Minister to entertain the crowds in the history of Shirui festival.
The visitors are only talking about the free car wash by Tangkhul youths during the 4-day long festival. Members of Katho Katamnao Long were providing voluntary car-washing services to tourists at Ukhrul. It was a pleasant surprise for the tourists.
Going off the beaten track, members of Katho Katamnao Long, a local students’ body, are welcoming tourists to the famed festival in a noble and unique way. The free car wash service was led by Mashungmi Zingkhai and Wungmayung Sayai, and members of Katho Katamnao Long.
Voluntary car-washing service for every tourist visiting Ukhrul for the festival is the talk of the town. Lots of appreciation and wishes kept pouring in for the unique service on Social media.
Another lesson for the tourists is that some volunteers are working hard to clean the waste and trash scattered by tourists. As thousands of tourists came to enjoy the Shirui Lily Festival, a handful of Tangkhul youths chose to volunteer themselves.
This unique initiative was led by Patrick Shangh – the co-founder of Environmental Force At Grass Root Level – Enfogal. Such commitment and sacrifices will take us a long way toward bringing sustainable eco-tourism activities to different parts of the State.
One of the happy tourists appreciated the idea and services being done to the tourists. The message will be carried to the valley where different festivals like the Sangai festival, Pineapple festival, and Singju festival are also attracting crowds every year.
